DVD- Recordable. DVD-R has a capacity of up to 4.7 GB per side, and uses dye polymer technology (same as CD-R). New to the market are ‘dual-layer’ DVD-R’s, which have a total data capacity of 8.4 GB. Although the new media will read in many conventional DVD-ROM computer drives, most set-top players will not recognize them, however the reading of discs produced with DVD-R duplication is becoming more and more common in set-top players.
